Planning a wedding in Dubai: a working timeline

When to book the venue, when design must be settled, and what the last weeks really involve.

A planning notebook, floor plan and fabric swatches

Every wedding moves at its own pace, but the decisions that shape it arrive in a reliable order. Knowing that order early is what keeps a large celebration calm.

Nine to twelve months out: date, venue, scale

The venue decides almost everything that follows: capacity, ceiling height, rigging, load-in windows and how late the celebration can run. In Dubai, the cooler months from October to April are the most requested, so popular ballrooms and outdoor settings are often committed early. Settle an approximate guest count before signing — it is the number every later plan depends on.

Six to nine months out: the design direction

This is the time to agree a concept: the palette, the materials, the feeling of the room and the layout of stage, tables and dance floor. Production-heavy elements — a custom kosha, a full ceiling treatment, a raised stage — need drawings and venue approval long before anything is fabricated.

Three to six months out: production and suppliers

  • Confirm lighting, sound and AV requirements with the venue's technical team.
  • Approve samples for florals, linens and tableware.
  • Lock the programme: arrivals, the zaffa or entrance, speeches, dinner and dancing.
  • Plan guest logistics — transport, accommodation and accessibility.

The final month: detail and rehearsal

Seating plans, run-of-show timings and supplier schedules are finalised. The production team confirms the load-in plan, and key moments are walked through so that on the day, the family only has to be present.
