Separate atmosphere and visibility
Discuss how the room should feel and how faces, the stage and table details need to read on camera. Decorative fixtures alone may not provide suitable light for speeches or the entrance. Share the key moments with both the lighting team and photographer before the technical plan is settled.
Review the cues together
Connect lighting changes to the programme: arrival, the couple’s entrance, dinner and dancing. Ask the photographer about positions and important angles, then check whether equipment obstructs guests or the design. Agree a test window before the room opens.
Avoid approving from a reference alone
An edited photograph cannot describe the live experience or establish a lighting specification. Request a technical plan and venue approval where required. Review the practical balance between camera exposure, comfortable guest lighting and the atmosphere you want.
